Repair Decayed And Damaged Teeth With Dental Fillings

At Burnaby Dentist and Orthodontist in Burnaby, we’re proud to offer our patients several restorative filling materials to repair teeth that have been damaged by decay, tooth grinding, and more.

How are fillings applied?

Our dentist will first remove the decayed portion of your tooth and remove any bacteria and/or debris. Next, a filling material that best meets your needs will be selected, based on the location of the tooth and the extent of decay it’s experienced. The material will then be placed and shaped before being hardened to ensure that it will provide durable and long-lasting protection against bacteria and decay.

Are there symptoms that indicate my tooth needs a filling?

While it’s very possible for a cavity to be present without symptoms, some patients may experience sensitivity to fluctuating temperatures and/or notice that they feel pain when pressure is applied (i.e., while eating or brushing) to the tooth in question. It’s also common for decay to cause a dark spot or a hole to develop, and for the tooth to feel jagged or rough to your tongue.

How should I care for a tooth that’s been restored with a filling?

These teeth require the same level of care as your natural teeth. For best results, brush twice and floss once each day, and do your best to eat a diet that’s low in sugar to reduce your risk for cavities. Also, remember that it’s vital that you see our team at least twice each year for professional cleanings and checkups to keep your smile strong, protected, and confident.
